Jeet Kune Do History
Jeet Kune Do (“the way of the intercepting fist”) is a philosophy developed by Bruce Lee. Prior to his exploration of Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee studied Wing Chun (empty hand Kung Fu) under Sifu Yip Man in China. In 1964, Bruce Lee opened a martial arts school in California and taught a modified version of Wing Chun. He believed every martial artist should use the techniques and concepts that work for them and disregard the rest. This is the basis of the Jeet Kune Do philosophy. What works for one person might not work for another person. Do not limit yourself to one style or curriculum. This philosophy led Jun Fan (Bruce Lee) to add western boxing, grappling, and certain movements from fencing to his teachings called Jun Fan Gung Fu. Jun Fan Gung Fu consists of Kickboxing, Trapping, and Grappling.
